Gifts of Time and Talent
Volunteers of all ages have chosen to share their time and talent to enrich the lives of residents, visitors and staff at Carondelet Manor. Many are retired and live in the surrounding neighborhood, some are members of nearby congregations, a number of Sisters from the community, several are friends and relatives of current and former residents while others are students from area high schools and colleges.
These men and women provide extra sets of hands needed to:
- Serve mid-morning and evening snacks and deliver ice water
- Deliver or read mail and e-mail to residents
- Assist in writing letters for our residents
- Read
- Play Cards
- Assist with gardening and even donate flowers/shrubs from their own gardens
- Assist with craft projects
- Accompany our residents to chapel, activities, the beauty shop and to medical appointments in the community
The energy and enthusiasm of our volunteers is contagious; their very presence adds to the daily life here at Carondelet Manor.
Adult and student volunteers are an important part of our care team at Carondelet Manor. They work directly with our residents in group and individualized activities as well as behind the scenes in supportive services and fund raising efforts.
Some of the activities in which volunteers are currently involved at Carondelet Manor are:
- Parties, sing-a-longs, special event parties
- Bingo, games, discussion groups and cards
- One to one visits
- Exercise programs
- Gardening
- Creative Activities
- Pet Visits (a copy of the pet's records must be provided prior to bringing the pet into our building)
Volunteering may be done on a regular basis in a scheduled activity, on a periodic basis as a volunteer with a special event, or on your own schedule visiting with individual residents. Our staff makes every effort to match each volunteer's interests and availability to the needs of our residents and our programs.
Becoming a volunteer is easy. On-the-job training is provided and ongoing support is offered through our Activities Department. You need to be 16 years of age or older, fill out a Volunteer Application, take a 2 - step TB skin test and we are required to run a background check.
Individuals under the age of 16 can volunteer but must be accompanied by an adult volunteer or as part of a group.
For more information about adult and youth volunteer opportunities, contact Carondelet Manor at 816-943-4777 and ask for the Activities Department.
