Services

Nursing
Charge nurses, available on all shifts, are happy to answer questions regarding residents. Residents are given a bath or shower at lease twice a week, unless their condition requires more frequent bathing. The bed linen is changed completely on bath day and as needed. The medical plan of care is ordered by the physician and implemented by the nursing staff. A mobile x-ray service is available for portable x-rays and EKGs. The resident or responsible party is billed by the x-ray company for these services.

Spiritual Care
Because of the importance of spiritual care to the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, we have a full-time spiritual care staff member who visits residents regularly and schedules scripture and devotional services. The Spiritual Care Department also provides regularly scheduled Holy Communion, Mass and interdenominational services. Ministers are contacted when requested by resident or family. Families wishing to meet with spiritual care staff members may make an appointment to do so by contacting the administrative office.

Physical, Speech and Occupational Therapy
Fees for these services are not included in the daily room rate, but are available at Villa Saint Joseph when ordered by a physician. All services are billed to the responsible party.

Social Services
The Social Service Department at Villa Saint Joseph is an integral part of the health care team. The social worker's primary responsibility is to assist with the psychosocial needs of all residents, family members and friends.

The Residents' Council
At Villa Saint Joseph, we want our residents to have an important say in how their home is run. The Residents' Council meets monthly and elects its own officers.

Food Service
We make every effort to ensure that meal times are pleasant experiences. At each meal, residents choose their favorite foods from a choice of entrees. Our registered dietician plans meals and therapeutic diets that are delicious and healthy, regardless of diet or individual needs and preferences. To assure variety, menus are rotated and changed regularly. Meals are served in our lovely dining room, waitress-style, where the use of linens (tablecloths and cloth napkins) adds to the cheerful ambiance. An assisted dining room, supervised by nursing personnel, is also available. Private dining facilities, scheduled upon request, allow residents to share special mealtimes with friends and family members. Guest meals are served for a nominal fee.

Activities
At Villa Saint Joseph, we feel that being active and having fun are important keys to staying healthy. Our staff activities director organizes activities for individuals and groups, including social events and special activity groups. In addition, occasional social outings are planned for resident enjoyment. The activities director meets with residents to determine individual interests and also plans group social, spiritual, intellectual, creative and community services. If the resident is unable to verbalize his/her needs, the family is asked to assist.

Beautician
The services of a beautician are available on premises, but are not included in the daily rate. Appointments should be arranged by the resident or family member with the beautician. Haircuts for men and women, permanents, hair coloring, manicures, pedicures, shampoos and sets are available.

Laundry Facilities
Residents may choose to have their personal belongings laundered at Villa Saint Joseph or sent home with family members. All bed linens and towels are routinely laundered on the premises. No fees are charged for laundry services.

Dental/Podiatry
Fees for these services are not included in the daily room rate. Dental and podiatry services are available at Villa Saint Joseph. Families or responsible parties will be notified of any dental or podiatry services needed. The podiatrist or dentist will visit Villa Saint Joseph as needed.

Admission Information

Upon Admission
Once you have chosen Villa Saint Joseph for your family member, contact the admissions director in the Villa Saint Joseph office so you can complete final arrangements. In order for us to provide the highest quality care, the name of the attending physician should be submitted to our office one day prior to admission. If the resident is transferred from a hospital or another nursing facility, our staff will obtain this information from that facility. A current medical history and physical must be completed by the physician within five days prior to admission or within two days following admission. The attending physician will supply all diet, medication and activity orders.

What to Bring
Residents are encouraged to bring the personal belongings and furnishings that will help them feel "close to home." Due to space and safety restrictions, items must be limited to personal clothing, furniture, books, photographs, electric shavers, televisions, radios, telephones, wall decorations and toiletries. Medications of any kind cannot be kept in resident rooms without a physician's order. Questions about what to bring may be directed to the administrative office.

Physicians
Families may choose their personal physician or our Villa Saint Joseph medical director can be assigned. The admissions coordinator is also available to help in selecting an attending physician. The physician must have an active Kansas license and abide by Villa Saint Joseph's policies. Physicians are required to see residents on a regular basis according to their medical needs.

Pharmacy
Pharmacy fees are not included in the daily room rate. The resident is free to select any pharmacy that will bubble pack and deliver a 31-day supply of medication to be in compliance with our system. Pharmacy bills are mailed monthly and are the responsibility of the resident or responsible party.

Transportation
Transportation arrangements are handled by admissions, nursing and families. A small fee is charged for usage of the facility van for round trips to area health care facilities. Admissions are also available to assist families with transportation needs to alternate locations.

Social Services
Any household move creates a certain amount of stress and requires a period of adjustment. Our qualified staff social worker is available to help ease the transition for both resident and family members and serve as an ongoing source of support as normal living situations occur.

Visiting Hours
Family members are encouraged to visit at any time. The front doors are accessible via a security code between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Visitors may enter the building at emergency entrances during hours the front door is locked. A state-of-the-art intercom system allows two-way communication between residents rooms and the nursing station. A unique security camera system, which monitors hallways and common areas around the clock, is also positioned at the nursing stations. In addition, all exterior doors at Villa Saint Joseph are equipped with alarms.

Telephones and Televisions
Telephone service and televisions are not provided by Villa Saint Joseph. However, telephone and cable receptacles are located in each room. To arrange for these services, family members should contact the appropriate vendors, who will bill them directly.
