Volunteers

Volunteers of all ages have chosen to share their time and talent to enrich the lives of residents, visitors and staff at Villa Saint Joseph. Many are members of nearby congregations, the community, friends and relatives of current and former residents and/or students from area high schools and colleges.

These men and women provide extra sets of hands needed to:

  • Serve mid-morning and evening snacks and deliver ice water
  • Deliver or read mail and e-mail for residents
  • Assist in writing letters for our residents
  • Read
  • Play Cards
  • Assist with gardening
  • Assist with craft projects
  • Accompany our residents to chapel, activities and the beauty shop

The energy and enthusiasm of our volunteers is contagious; their very presence adds to the daily life here at Villa Saint Joseph.

Adult and student volunteers are an important part of our care team at Villa Saint Joseph. They work directly with our residents in group and individualized activities as well as behind the scenes in supportive services and fund-raising efforts.

Some of the activities in which volunteers are currently involved at Carondelet Manor are:

  • Parties, sing-a-longs, special event parties
  • Bingo, games, discussion groups and cards
  • One-to-one visits
  • Exercise programs
  • Gardening
  • Creative Activities
  • Pet Visits (a copy of the pet's records must be provided prior to bringing the pet into our building)
  • Adopt-a-resident

Volunteering may be done on a regular basis in a scheduled activity, on a periodic basis as a volunteer with a special event or on your own schedule visiting with individual residents. Our staff makes every effort to match each volunteer's interests and availability to the needs of our residents and our programs.

Becoming a volunteer is easy. On-the-job training is provided and ongoing support is offered through our Activities Department. You need to be 16 years of age or older and fill out a volunteer application. Depending on hours of service, a 2-step TB skin test may be required.

Individuals under the age of 16 can volunteer but must be accompanied by an adult volunteer or as part of a group.

For more information about adult and youth volunteer opportunities, contact Villa Saint Joseph at 816-345-1745 and ask for the Activities Department.
