Saint Joseph Health Center and St. Mary's Hospital of
Blue Springs are offering mammograms for $10 off the regular price during
the month of October--Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Mammography, a so-called x-ray of the breast, is the single
most effective method of detecting a change that may be cancerous long
before physical symptoms can be seen or felt. Yet, statistics show the
majority of women who need mammograms are not getting them. Early detection,
followed by up-to-date treatment, provides a woman with a better chance
for long-term survival of breast cancer.
The American Cancer Society
says mammography screening should begin at the age of 40. The ACS also
recommends breast self-examination, clinical exams along with mammography.
