Saint Joseph Health Center is expanding its maternity space and providing
private postpartum rooms for all new moms.
The health center has converted all 11 of the double postpartum rooms
on maternity and six double rooms on an adjacent nursing unit to private
postpartum rooms, bringing the total of private maternity suites to 17.
"Mothers are wanting the private setting to bond with their newborns
and decrease interruptions," said maternity director Anna Terrell. "The
change should increase patient satisfaction, help drive decision-making
for maternity services to Saint Joseph Health Center and improve utilization
of other inpatient beds."
Annually, Saint Joseph Health Center helps deliver 1800 babies. The unit
has two operating rooms for Cesarean section, an intermediate level nursery
for sick babies, four labor/delivery/recovery/postpartum (LDRP) suites
and a postpartum care area.
