Big Deal for Little Kids

The Child Development Center (CDC) at Saint Joseph Health Center recently received accreditation from NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children), an honor awarded to only about five percent of child care centers nationwide.Centers applying for accreditation go through a self-study process lasting several months. Changing the Way We Respond to Cardiac Arrest

Saint Joseph Health Center is among the first to begin using automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) throughout its entire facility. AEDs are not new to health care. For years, emergency medical service (EMS) personnel have used AEDs to provide defibrillation outside the acute care environment in the community. Recently, a push has been underway to expand the use of AED's beyond the EMS arena to hospital environments and into airports, retail malls, golf courses and athletic facilities. (full story...)

Alzheimers and Wandering

Alzheimer's disease is a progressive illness that affects 10 percent of those over the age of 65 and nearly half of those over the age of 85. Fifty-nine percent of those suffering with Alzheimer's will wander during the course of their illness. Wandering behavior includes all those behaviors that carry with them the potential of getting lost. (full story...)
