There was a lot happening within Carondelet Health in the year
2000. We were growing physically and spiritually.
The
new millennium began with a year filled with celebrations for Carondelet
Health. We began with the opening of a new ICU at Saint Joseph Health
Center which is offering our patients 135 more square feet of space
per room. This additional space has encouraged more family involvement
and accommodated additional monitoring equipment. Our new facility
is providing a warm, caring, healing environment for the patient,
a comfortable supportive atmosphere for families and state of the
art facilities for our staff.
|
|
That supportive atmosphere has been enhanced further with the completion
of three sleep rooms that help family members stay close to their
loved ones.
In
addition, Carondelet Health began delivering more for the future
of eastern Jackson County with the opening of the Birthing Center
at St. Mary's Hospital of Blue Springs during the summer of 2000.
We deliver around 1000 babies a year and are seeing an 8% increase
in deliveries since the expansion.

|
Not
only have we enjoyed the endings to some construction projects--we
are also excited about a new beginning. The Medical Mall at St.
Mary's Hospital of Blue Springs is literally getting off the ground.
The foundation has been laid for this premier health care facility
in Jackson County and we look forward to its opening in Spring 2002.
Thanks to the efforts of St. Mary's Hospital of Blue Springs Development
(which this past year changed to a Foundation), the 1 million dollar
capital campaign completed in 2000 will help provide renovation
and equipment for the new Medical Mall.
|
In
addition, proceeds from the St. Mary's Hospital Golf Classic and the
Alex George Memorial Golf Classic will provide additional funds for
the medical mall at St. Mary's Hospital and for medical equipment,
community and staff health education and the Carondelet Lecture Series
at Saint Joseph Health Center.

JCAHO survey results for St. Mary's Hospital and Carondelet Home Care
that reflected the quality care we are providing. St. Mary's Hospital
earned a 94 on a scale of 100 and Carondelet Home Care receives a 99.
It was a year of new partnerships. St. Mary's Hospital of Blue Springs
and the Adam's Mark Hotel have teamed up to make sleep studies more comfortable
and restful. Now sleep study patients can enjoy the accommodations of
the Adams Mark Hotel while identifying their sleep disorders. The program
has increased customer satisfaction and our capacity to serve a greater
number of patients suffering from sleep deprivation.
Another partnership is made with the YMCA. It now operates the Mabee
Fitness Center Community for Health and Education at Saint Joseph Health
Center. The change was made as Carondelet Health transitions out of non-core
business operations.
The future holds a great deal of potential for Carondelet Health. We
enter the year on the heels of successful JCAHO survey results for St.
Mary's Hospital and Carondelet Home Care, and our financial picture is
improving. Now, we're identifying core businesses and putting our resources
into our cardiology programs.
Carondelet Health's roots are strong as we continue to branch out to
meet the crucial health care needs of the communities we serve. Our success
lies in our mission and our greatest assets are our employees and physicians.
