Dear Friends of Carondelet Health,
The year 2000-the first year of the millennium or the last, depending
upon your perspective. It certainly was an interesting year for Carondelet
Health, filled with challenges and triumphs.
In ways you can measure and in ways you cannot, 2000 was a year of growth
for us. We've changed our thinking and the way we do business. We're focused
on our core business and devoting ourselves to the values inherent to
our mission.
Health care continues to be challenged to provide care and contain costs.
We've recognized that changes are needed to survive. We're returning to
our roots and focusing on our healing ministry. We're not going to be
all things to all people, but instead we're focusing on what we do best-acute
care and outpatient services. We've already seen a positive financial
result from this strategy.
Carondelet Health is unique in our healing ministry. It is what sets
us apart from other health care providers. Our values-integrity, compassion
and unity-are not just words on paper but the center of our day-to-day
operations. In 2000, employees went through a reorientation session to
gain a better understanding of our values and see how they are important
everyday. It makes our environment better for our patients and for staff.
Every employee is empowered to make our facilities better and they have
embraced the opportunities. I see and hear the stories every day. I'm
proud of what we're doing.
Even with all of the success we've had the past year, our work is far
from done. In this new year, we will continue to work to be the best provider
in the Kansas City area. Construction continues on a medical mall at St.
Mary's Hospital of Blue Springs. This medical mall will help us provide
the best care to residents in eastern Jackson County and is scheduled
to open in the spring of 2002.
Your continued interest and involvement is both appreciated and necessary
