Dear Friends of Carondelet Health,
2002 will be remembered as a year of tremendous changes, challenges
and growth for Carondelet Health.
Last summer, Carondelet Health System signed a letter of intent
with Ascension Health uniting the two Catholic health care systems.
The agreement was finalized in December. We believe this partnership
is cause for celebration. The two systems coming together create
the largest not-for-profit health care system in the nation with
67 acute care hospitals in 20 states and the District of Columbia.
That certainly strengthens the tradition of Catholic healing and
gives us greater leverage in lobbying for important health care
issues.
While changes occurred on the system level, there was growth at
both Carondelet Health hospitals. At St. Mary's Hospital of Blue
Springs, the new medical mall and expanded Emergency Department
added more than 100,000 square feet of space-that's more than the
area of the original hospital when it opened in 1981. At Saint Joseph
Health Center, the Carondelet Heart Institute opened, providing
centralized cardiac care for patients.
2002 was a good year financially for Carondelet Health, but we
will not rest with good financial news. With all of the success
we've had the past year, our focus remains to be the best health
care provider in the Kansas City area. We thank George Zara, former
CEO and president, for his leadership in our quest for Service Excellence
and vow the journey will continue.
I've been very impressed by what I've seen in my short time as
interim CEO. I see daily commitment to our mission, vision and values.
My time with Carondelet Health is expected to be brief--a search
committee is hard at work and it's expected that a permanent CEO
will be named in a few months. Your continued interest and involvement
is both appreciated and necessary to our continued success. On behalf
of all of Carondelet Health, we thank you.
Regards,
Matt Maguire
Interim Chief Executive Officer
