Family Air Fair at Saint Joseph Health Center

Getting an education on asthma might not seem like a fun way to spend a Sunday afternoon, but those attending to the Family Air Fair at Saint Joseph Health Center in March found that learning really could be fun.
"Each year we try to offer something more," says Janet Milkovich, one of the organizers of the fair. This was the 12th year the health center has sponsored a health fair targeting people with respiratory problems. "We had a lot more educational opportunities this year and things for younger children to do."
"People really were inspired by Jene Popper, our keynote speaker," says Milkovich. "As a child, laughing would cause an asthmatic attack for her. Now, she is a trialthlete-thriving despite the disease. I think people need to hear these success stories."
There was information on respiratory therapy, sinusitis and asthma. "People could come and ask questions of physicians, therapists and pharmaceutical representatives," says Milkovich. "They really appreciated having the opportunity to do that in one place."
Milkovich says many organizations helped make it a successful event, including the American Lung Association, the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, the Environmental Protection Agency and the Greater Kansas City Chapter of Pediatric Nurses.
