It was designed to get kids ready for summer fun and safety and despite the fact that it was a cool, cloudy day it did.
The Safety & Sports Expo held at St. Mary's Hospital of Blue Springs in May was a cooperative effort. The Blue Springs Sunset Optimist Club and The Blue Springs Police Department offered a bicycle course; Parks and Recreation offered a basketball toss and SportsCity provided some soccer and baseball fun.
"We had fun educational things for kids to do and good information for adults," says Rhonda Dawkins, event coordinator. "We got really good feedback from the talks Dr. Ameet (Deshmukh) from our Emergency Department gave to coaches and parents about sports injuries."
The expo also gave people the chance to talk with physicians about various health issues. Free cholesterol screenings and blood pressure checks were also offered.
As far as fair favorites are concerned, most adults most appreciated the free chair massages and the Lifeflight Eagle Helicopter and the fire engine were big hits with the kids.
