A new GE LightSpeed CT scanner was recently added in the Radiology Department of St. Mary's Hospital of Blue Springs. It has new multislice technology, which means it is much faster and provides better images than older models. "The older scanner is still a good scanner," says Diane Watts, radiology technologist. "The newer scanner is four times faster-which means less procedure time for our patients. The new scanner allows us to do cardiac studies which can identify hard plaque in coronary arteries."
Radiology has also added a second mammography machine and another technologist. Mammography is offered from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, making it much more convenient for working women. The wait time to get an appointment has gone from six to eight weeks to getting in within a week.
