One out of every four American adults has high blood pressure. Odds are that you or someone in your family has it and doesn't know it. High blood pressure increases your chances of having a stroke or developing heart or kidney disease. Some people with high blood pressure complain of occasional headaches and nosebleeds. But high blood pressure is also known as a "silent killer" because many people experience no symptoms at all.
