St. Mary's Regional Rehabilitation Center celebrated National Rehabilitation Week, September 19-25. St. Mary's Rehab has been in existence since October 1989 and is the only rehabilitation center within eight counties between eastern Jackson County and Columbia.
Similar to St. Mary's Wound Care Center, the fifteen-bed rehabilitation center is actually a facility within a facility, following specialized regulations for admission criteria, medical oversight, nursing care, and rehabilitation therapies and case management services. The focus of the rehab program is to help patients help themselves, using a multitude of rehabilitation interventions and activities as teaching moments for patients and their caregivers. Rehabilitation patients are not passive recipients, but active participants in their individualized goal development and recovery.
In August 2004, the rehab center welcomed Amy McKay as our new admissions liaison. Amy is a certified rehabilitation registered nurse with an extensive background in inpatient rehabilitation. Her role includes evaluation of potential rehabilitation candidates, exploration of various continuum of care options, and smooth transitioning of appropriate patients into the rehabilitation program.
