It's bigger and better-much bigger and much better.
Saint Joseph Health Center opened its new endoscopy/gastroenterology
lab this month, offering more comfort and privacy to patients.
The
three million dollar project tripled the size of the lab. The lab
houses 21 private prep/recovery bays and five procedure rooms, making
it one of the largest GI labs in Kansas City. The increased capacity
will enable Saint Joseph Health Center to see 3000 more patients
annually.
A private, dedicated entrance and parking are among
the improvements. The lab also features private bays or "roomettes".
"Families can stay with the patients before and after procedures
and they can wait right there while procedures are being done,"
says Candice Quillin, endoscopy lab coordinator. "They won't
have to shuffle to and from waiting rooms. It makes everyone more
comfortable and enhances patient education and family involvement."
In
addition, the endoscopy lab, which is located just inside the Community
Center for Health and Education, offers dedicated parking spaces
for patients and their physicians. "It is very easy for patients
and family to access the service for their outpatient procedures
which take about two hours on average," said Quillin.
Procedures performed in the lab include colonoscopies, sigmoidoscopies,
bronchoscopies, esophagogastroduodenoscopies (EGDs) and liver and
bone marrow biopsies.
