If you're one of those people who like the idea of exercising, but don't like the idea of starting a class filled with people who could model in a fitness magazine, take note. Saint Joseph Health Center offers an alternative. It's called Low Impact Combo-and it's designed to meet you where you are.
The class was formerly called Big, Bold and Beautiful, but class instructor Angela Orangifard thought the title was too limiting.
"I think it's important for people to get healthy-no matter their size or limitations," says Angela. "I want to invite all sorts of people to the class. Low impact combo is a better fit to what we actually do in class."
A better fit to lead to a better fitness level. A low-impact class is a good for a wide range of people-from beginners to regular exercisers and those with joint pain. "It can be tough to get started in an exercise program. Traditional classes have a lot of jumping and some difficult moves. This class is low-impact. We focus on having fun, getting healthy and feeling comfortable."
Angela started teaching aerobics seven years ago and has taken several different fitness classes, but she says, she's far from perfect. "I'm on the bigger side, myself and had a baby this year. I'm hoping to not only inspire, but to be inspired."
"A lot of people are looking for the quick fix. But you have to change your lifestyle. Getting people moving may be the first step-or it may be the part missing in their lives. When you focus on overall health-weight loss may follow."
The class leaves no room for boredom. Angela says she wants to have fun. "I want to switch it around to keep it interesting. We'll do some boxing, dancing, stretching and toning. Having fun can be a great motivator."
