Medicare was designed to provide older Americans with reliable health care coverage. But sometimes, dealing with enrollment, and questions about coverage can give people headaches.
Who are you going to call? Walt Doyle.
As a Saint Joseph Health Center Volunteer, Walt has been advising people with Medicare questions for eight years. He's perfect for the job, before retiring, Walt work in the insurance industry.
"I get a lot of questions about whether it's better for someone to go to an HMO, or purchase a medigap policy," says Walt. "I simply relay information and let them know their options-compare and contrast policies."
Walt has answered hundreds of questions throughout the years. And he's always happy to help. He says he doesn't tell callers what they should do, but rather, tells them the pros and cons of the options.
"I believe it's important to do some community service," says Walt. "I get a lot of satisfaction from being able to help people."
The state requires training every quarter, so Walt knows what changes are made and how people will be affected by the changes. Over the years, he's developed professional relationships for referrals. Chances are, if Walt can't answer a question, he knows someone who can.
