St. Mary’s Medical Center Earns Award in Cardiac Care
St. Mary’s Medical Center has earned the Get With The Guidelines® Silver Performance Achievement Award for 2012 from the American College of Cardiology Foundation. The award recognizes St. Mary’s commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of care for heart attack patients as outlined by the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association (ACC/AHA) clinical guidelines and recommendations. St. Mary’s is one of only 73 hospitals nationwide earning the award.
The Get With The Guidelines program was developed to help hospitals ensure that the care they provide to heart attack patients is aligned with the most current, science-based guidelines and establishes a national standard for understanding and improving the quality, safety and outcomes of care.
To receive the award, St. Mary’s consistently followed the treatment guidelines for four consecutive quarters and met a performance standard of 90 percent for specific performance measures.
“The award recognizes our success in implementing a higher standard of care by ensuring that heart attack patients receive treatment according to nationally accepted standards and recommendations,” says Cynthia Peters, RN, BSN, Director of Cardiac Services at St. Mary’s Medical Center. “That’s important because heart disease is the number one killer of men and women in the U.S. Having access to this standard of care is important to providing quality care to our community.”
St. Mary’s Medical Center consistently followed the treatment guidelines in ACTION Registry®-GWTGTM for four consecutive quarters and met a performance standard of 90% for specific performance measures to receive this 2012 award.
