Carondelet Heart Institute Earns Echocardiography Accreditation
The Carondelet Heart Institute has earned a three-year accreditation in echocardiography by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC).
The inpatient and outpatient services for the Carondelet Heart Institute at St. Joseph Medical Center, St. Mary’s Medical Center and its Lee’s Summit clinic all earned the accreditation in the area of Adult Transthoracic and Adult Transesophageal. It shows the Carondelet Heart Institute has undergone a thorough review of its operational and technical components by a panel of experts. The accreditation is earned only by those facilites found to be providing quality patient care, in compliance with national standards through a conprehensive application process and detailed case study review.
Echocardiography is a painless tests that uses sound waves to create moving pictures of the heart. The skill of the sonographer, the type of the equipment used, and the knowledge of the interpreting physician are critical to quality testing. In earning the accrediation, patients coming to the Carondelet Heart Institute can rest assured the facility has been carefully critiqued on all aspects of its operations.
“The accredition is a ‘seal of approval’ from the commission,” says Amy Mehaffy, Director of Cardiology Services for Carondelet Health. “Cardiovascular disease is the number one cause of death in the U.S. Echocardiography is one of the tools we use to diagnose heart disease and patients coming to the Carondelet Heart Institute can know they can rely on us.”
The IAC encourages patients to inquire about the accreditation status of the facility where their examinations will be performed.
