Screening for Cancer

The American Cancer Society makes the following recommendations for the early detection of cancer in people who do not have symptoms or a family history of cancer. If you are having specific symptoms or have a family history of cancer, you should consult your personal physician for more specific screening recommendations.

All women who are or who have been sexually active, or have reached age 18 should have an annual pap test and pelvic exam. After 3 consecutive normal annual exams the Pap test may be done less frequently at the discretion of the health care provider.
