24 hours a day, 7 days a week the highly trained medical professionals in the Emergency Department are here for your peace of mind. All physicians are board certified and trained in emergency medicine. The nursing staff are certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Emergency Pediatric Nursing, and Trauma Nursing. When you come to the Emergency Department we utilize a triage system which allows those with the greatest need to be seen and treated first.
Emergency Department
 The Emergency Department at St. Joseph Medical Center is ready for all of your emergencies. From a sore throat, cuts, broken bones or a life threatening event the staff is ready and trained to help. The Emergency Department at St. Joseph Medical Center is one of the Kansas City Metropolitan Medical Response System's Designated Haz Mat Center with personnel that are trained and have the equipment necessary to work with patients exposed to hazardous material and weapons of mass destruction (biological, chemical or nuclear). The staff of the Emergency Department have also received training relating to mass casualties in case a large disaster should occur.
Chest Pain Center
The Chest Pain Center within the Emergency Department is dedicated solely to treating chest pains 24 hours a day. The rooms are designed to offer privacy and contain all the monitors and necessary high-tech equipment to help diagnose and treat chest pain when the minutes count. All nurses and doctors are trained in Advanced Cardiac Life Support and a cardiologist is available 24 hours a day. Free Service
As a service to the community, the Emergency Department offers free blood pressure checks. Anyone especially individuals who suffer from high blood pressure or those who have a tendency toward high blood pressure can come to the Emergency Department any time, day or night, without an appointment.
Location
To access any of St. Joseph Medical Center's emergency services, use the west entrance. There is a covered ambulance entrance and parking for emergency patients only.
