The Best In Care For Mothers And Babies
The Birthing Center offers patients a 'family-centered' birth experience.
Each of our 19 birthing rooms allows the family to experience
the entire process of labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum (LDRP)
in one spacious, beautifully decorated suite. Calm and relaxation
prevail in all aspects of care. Large picture windows invite natural
light. The furnishings include soft, gentle lighting and accommodations for dad or other support person.
While the rooms are very comfortable and inviting,
within minutes they can transform into state-of-the-art delivery
rooms. Families can be secure in the fact that our well-trained
staff is ready to offer skilled, specialized care when needed. Epidurals
and other forms of anesthesia are available, upon request, 24 hours
a day.
Our nurses are specially trained to provide care for babies who require oxygen therapy, ventilation
assistance, antibiotics, phototherapy and breast-feeding assistance. We have neonatal nurse practitioners
24 hours a day and availability of neonatologists from Children's Mercy Hospital. Our certified lactation nurse
is available to nursing mothers.
The neonatal nurse practitioners are on site and are available at all times, attending high risk deliveries and providing nurses with consultation and expert advice.

We Put an Emphasis on Education
At The Birthing Center of St. Mary's Medical Center, we offer a full
range of birth and family enrichment programs for all members
of your family. These classes include newborn infant care, breast-feeding
and childbirth education. We even have a special class for big brothers

Self-Pay Maternity Program
The Self-Pay Maternity Program is designed as a community service for mothers without maternity coverage and offers predictable charges and significant cost savings. Patients interest in the 24-, 48-hours or cesarean birth short-stay option should talk with their physicians about their plan to utilize this program.
