Spiritual Care at Carondelet Health

Spiritual Care for Long-Term Care Residents

At each of the three long-term care facilities affiliated with Carondelet Health, Carondelet Manor, St. Mary's Manor and Villa St. Joseph, chaplains provide spiritual care to residents and their loved ones so that their religious traditions are honored. While each facility offers different spiritual care activities, typically those included are: prayer, regular worship services, pastoral listening, scripture reading and Bible study, grief support, and working with the residents' own clergy to ensure an ongoing connection to their own faith community.

Chaplains are available to provide spiritual leadership regarding issues such as anger, grief, loss of control over one's body and life's circumstances, death of loved ones, and reconciliation with one's life, family/friends and God.

Support of family members and other significant persons is important as they deal with their loved ones' physical and emotional fragility engendered by a skilled care placement. The chaplain is also available to families as their loved ones journey through the dying process, giving them all the spiritual, emotional and pastoral presence that they want.

Carondelet Health believes in a holistic approach to our residents' care. Spirituality and health go hand-in-hand for well-being of body, mind and spirit.
