Spiritual Care Volunteers
Volunteers are a vital part of the Spiritual Care Team at all five facilities.
We have commissioned Eucharistic ministers who take communion to our Roman Catholic patients and residents every day.
Trained lay ministers visit the patients in acute care, call faith communities when patients request, offer prayers before surgery and provide spiritual hope and presence.
In addition, the Spiritual Care clerical volunteers send personalized baby prayers when parents give birth to new babies at St. Mary's Medical Center and St. Joseph's Medical Center.
Other clerical volunteers write care notes to families who have lost a loved one and send them on the first anniversary of the death. Other volunteers bring residents to activities in the Long Term Care settings. Some volunteers enter data in computer databases.
If you are interested in becoming a Spiritual Care volunteer, please contact the Director Volunteer Services at St. Joseph Medical Center, 816-943-2775 or at St. Mary's Medical Center, 816-655-5362.
