St. Mary’s Medical Center Earns Advanced Certification for Stroke Center
The Stroke Center at St. Mary’s Medical Center has earned the Gold Seal of Approval from the Joint Commission as an Advanced Primary Stroke Center. The certification follows a rigorous on-site review from the Joint Commission last month.
The recognition from The Joint Commission and the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association shows St. Mary’s is among an elite group of providers focused on complex stroke care. Centers earning the seal of approval are recognized as industry leaders.
Every 45 seconds someone in America has a stroke; and every three minutes someone dies of one. Stroke is the third leading cause of death and one of the leading causes of long-term disability.
“The Joint Commission’s Stroke Center Certification program is based on the recommendations for Primary Stroke Centers established by the Brain Attack Coalition and the American Stroke Association,” says Angela Hawkins, BSN, RN, CCRN, CNRN, neuroscience navigator for the Stroke Center at St. Mary’s. “Earning the certification has given us the opportunity to highlight the exceptional stroke care we provide for our patients, and improved care overall for the benefit of our community.”
